In past few years the Andriod operating system has been a hot topic for discussion. Andriod being based on UNIX is no doubt an outstanding operating system for mobiles, tablets and netbooks (Let me just tell you that Apple's iOS is also written on top of UNIX kernel). So what is it that makes Andriod so special, nothing it's just the power of UNIX, the hardware independence that UNIX provided when it was introduced for the first time by Dennis Ritchie along with the C language made some people think that now it would be possible to make computers that could virtually be made of anything and would still work in the same way. It was at that time (around 1974) at Bell Labs (AT&T bell labs) that some serious work in computer science was being undertaken by a group of freaks by the name of Ken Thompson, Dennis Ritchie,Brian Kernighan, Douglas McIlroy, Michael Lesk and Joe Ossanna. They developed an operating system for which you just needed to write a C compiler in assembly then rest other things would work like a charm on any hardware platform. This idea changed the entire working mechanism of the computer industry although it was not an industry at that time but this thing surely helped it to become an industry. The people at apple have been using the same idea since eternity, Google used the same idea to build Andriod, an operating system for devices that uses the UNIX kernel, any device manufacturer can now harness the power of a great platform that was built more than 3 decades ago.
Now what's the big fuss about Andriod, when Google first launched Andriod, Samsung was the first company to identify the potential. They just launched a series of mobile handsets blessed with the power of Andriod. Android is open source and Google releases the code under the Apache License. This open-source code and permissive licensing allows the software to be freely modified and distributed by device manufacturers, wireless carriers and enthusiast developers but when it comes to logging on to Google they store hell lot of information about you, your search preferences, what you do on internet, they even screen your personal data such as the files that you store on your device ( I came to know this when I started seeing ads about PPC on you tube just because I has some files on my phone containing the details about PPC campaigns that could be run for a tech support website). The code comes free for Andriod and you can download it, modify it and make your own OS for your mobile device (which doesn't happens with a Windows phone or an iPhone) but still you have got to login into your Google account to access the play store to download the applications for your Andriod custom made OS. You have got three options from this point onwards, you write your own applications is the first option that you can pursue if you are too much concerned of your privacy, second is that you can have your custom applications developed by someone whom you trust and the final one is to go to Google Play and download it (which is the easiest of all three if you are not concerned that someone might be monitoring what you do). Google stores your search preferences into it's database so if you just search for a lot of porn you are already marked as pervert or a rapist in Google's database.
Just understand this simple fact, now that Google has a browser of it's own it can access any file in your computer, upload it to Google servers or even share it with anyone in this world, if you use Google chrome beware of the fact that Google can now do anything on your computer. People would read this article after a decade or so and say that this guy knew the future, we all know that with the amount of information that Google has it can turn the tides for regime, it can shake governments, they way we depend on Google can turn a running economy upside down.
I am not trying to prove that Google is evil, it has given a lot to this world, the power that we have today, the access that we have to a whole world of information came with Google but the way they store my, your and everyone's personal information is concerning. You, me and everyone else in this world has got an identity, and if someone can remember what you are and what you do they can most probably strip you off your clothes.
